Glossary
A
All-in-One (AIO)
Pre-filled disposable vaporizer device with built-in battery and cartridge.
Atomizer
The core component of a vape pen or personal vaporizer responsible for heating oil or concentrate. The atomizer contains the heating coil and the chamber where the material is held. It uses electric power to quickly vaporize the material without combustion, producing a smooth, inhalable vapor.
B
Banger
A quartz bucket used for vaporizing concentrates, typically heated with a torch or electronic heater.
Beaker Bong
A popular style of bong shaped like a classic lab beaker. The wide, flat base is valued for providing excellent stability, and the large chamber holds more water for extra smoke filtration.
Blunt
A large, hand-rolled smoke made using a cigar paper or wrap, which is filled with ground dry herb. Due to the thicker wrap, blunts burn slower than other rolling methods and deliver a unique, deep flavor.
Bong / Water Pipe
A smoking apparatus that uses water to cool and filter smoke before inhalation. While commonly referred to as a Bong, the retail term is Water Pipe. It typically consists of a base chamber, a downstem, and a neck, and can be further enhanced with percolators for additional filtration.
Borosilicate Glass
A heat-resistant and durable glass known for its low thermal expansion. This glass can be rapidly heated or cooled without shattering, making it the most reliable and safe material for complex glass accessories.
Bowl
The chamber of a pipe, bong, or bubbler where ground flower is packed and smoked.
Bubbler
A handheld water pipe that is larger than a standard pipe but smaller than a traditional bong. The bubbler uses a small water chamber to filter and cool the smoke, resulting in a smoother hit.
Butane
A common, flammable gas used as a solvent for the extraction of potent concentrates.
C
Carb Cap
A dome-like accessory used during dabbing to cover the banger or nail. The carb cap restricts airflow and traps heat, which allows concentrates to vaporize efficiently and fully at ideal temperatures.
Cartridge
Also referred to as a "cart", a cartridge is a pre‑filled container of oil designed to attach to a vape battery, typically using a 510 thread.
Cold-Working
Any mechanical finishing process performed on glass after it has been fully formed and cooled. Cold-working includes techniques like carving, grinding, sandblasting, and polishing, which are used to refine a piece, add intricate textures, or enhance specific details.
Collab (Collaboration)
Short for Collaboration, a collab is a unique, highly sought-after glass piece created when two or more individual artists pool their specific skills and techniques. These pieces are highly valued by collectors because they represent the combined artistic styles of multiple masters.
Concentrate
A general term for any highly potent product made by processing dry herb to isolate and concentrate its compounds, while removing excess plant material. Often referred to as extracts or dabs, these products come in various forms and consistencies.
D
Dab/Dabbing
A popular method of consuming concentrates. Dabbing involves placing a small, measured dose of concentrate (a dab) onto a super-heated surface, like a banger or e-nail, to instantly vaporize the material. The resulting vapor is known for delivering a potent and immediate effect.
Dab Knife
A metal tool with a flattened or sharpened tip used to slice, scoop, or pick up concentrates — especially sticky or solid forms.
Dab Pen
A portable vaping device designed specifically for consuming concentrates (dabs). Dab pens heat the concentrate to create smooth, potent vapor, and are valued for their convenience and ease of use.
Dab Rig
The specialized water pipe and accessory setup used to vaporize and inhale concentrates (known as dabs). A dab rig is fitted with a heat-resistant banger (or nail) instead of a bowl. The banger is heated using a torch or e-nail before the concentrate is applied, producing vapor that is then cooled by the water chamber.
Dab Tool
A tool used to handle and apply concentrates to a hot banger.
Decarboxylation
The essential chemical process of applying heat (or sometimes light) to flower to activate its compounds.
Dry Herb Vaporizer
A device designed to heat flower at precise temperatures to produce vapor instead of smoke. Often portable and used as a combustion-free alternative to pipes.
E
eRig
An electronic dab rig that heats concentrates using an internal battery and temperature‑controlled system — no torch required.
Entourage Effect
A term used to describe the physiological synergy of combining different compounds found in various dry herb varieties and concentrates at the same time.
F
Filter Tips / Crutch / Cones
Cardboard or paper mouthpieces used when hand-rolling. The filter tip or crutch is critical for stabilizing shape and ensuring a comfortable draw.
Fume / Fuming
A glass-blowing technique where the artist vaporizes small amounts of precious metals (most commonly silver and gold) inside the glass. The metallic vapor adheres to the surface, creating a unique, permanent color-shifting or smoky, iridescent effect.
Functional Glass Art
Hand-blown glass pieces that are valued equally as unique works of art and as fully functional smoking or vaporization devices (such as pipes, bongs, or dab rigs).
G
Grinder
Tool used to break down flower to then use in rolling paper, pipes, water pipes, etc.
H
Hand‑Blown Glass
Glass shaped manually using heat and tools.
Heady Glass
A term used to describe high-end, complex, and intricate hand-blown glass pieces. Valued by collectors as unique works of art, heady glass showcases advanced techniques, unique color patterns, and is often produced in very limited quantities.
I
Ice Bong
An ice bong is essentially a regular bong but with one key difference: There’s a built-in ice catcher, sometimes called an ice pinch.
J
Jade Glass
A type of opaque glass characterized by its smooth, milky green color, highly resembling the precious stone jade. This sought-after color is often used prominently in 'heady glass' (high-end, collectible glass art) accessories.
Jumping Banger
A type of quartz banger that rotates or “jumps” slightly when heated, often seen in custom dab rigs.
K
Kief Catcher / Box
A mesh screen at the bottom of a grinder.
L
Lollipop Nail
A type of dab nail shaped like a lollipop, used for vaporizing concentrates in a dab rig.
M
Mibs / Marbles
Small, artistic glass spheres, also known as Marbles, that serve two purposes: as decorative embellishments on high-end glass pieces to showcase the artist's technique, and sometimes functionally when used inside a banger to help distribute heat.
N
Nail / Banger
The component of a dab rig that is heated to vaporize concentrates. A nail (the older term) or banger (the newer, more common term) is typically made from heat-resistant materials like quartz, ceramic, or titanium and is heated using a torch or an electronic nail (e-nail).
Nectar Collector
A portable dab device designed for vaporizing concentrates directly, typically consisting of a straw-like tube and a tip for heating.
O
One Hitter
A small, discreet pipe designed for single, quick hits..
One‑of‑One
A highly valued piece of glass art, often referred to by the acronym OOAK (One-of-a-Kind). A One-of-One piece is entirely unique; the artist has guaranteed that the specific design will never be replicated, making it highly collectible.
P
Perc
Short for percolator, a perc is a secondary water filtration component located inside a bong or water pipe. It breaks up the smoke into smaller bubbles, significantly increasing the surface area and cooling the smoke for a smoother, cleaner hit.
Pipe / Hand Pipe
A small, portable device, often made of glass or metal, used to smoke flower without the need for water filtration. It is a simple, easy-to-use accessory.
Q
Quartz
A high‑purity, heat‑resistant mineral used to make bangers and nails for dabbing. Quartz heats quickly, retains flavor well, and is preferred for clean, high‑temperature vaporization.
R
Reticello
A complex, decorative glass technique that creates a fine, intricate network of overlapping lines. This sophisticated, lattice-like pattern is highly valued by glass artists and collectors for its visual depth.
