Blossom Takes First Place at DFO
Blossom Glass and Lace Face spent a week and nearly 60 hours building a Team Competition piece from scratch. It took First Place.
Choosing a Partner
When Blossom decided to compete at this year's Degenerate Flame Off, Lace Face was the only teammate she wanted. The two had been looking for a reason to collaborate, and DFO gave them one. What followed was a week in the Oregon summer heat and nearly 60 hours at the torch, sculpting a single Heady pipe under real competition pressure.
Sunset, Golden Hour, and Orchids
Both artists came in with their own vision. Blossom was drawn to the colors and emotion of sunset and golden hour, and wanted to sculpt the biggest, most beautiful orchids she could manage. Lace Face brought her own read on the orchid motif and what it meant to her. Rather than compromise between the two ideas, they blended them, and the final piece carries both artistic voices at once.

Built Under Pressure
A project like this doesn't come together in a straight line. Blossom describes the week as full of ups and downs, unexpected challenges, and constant decision-making, all under a competition clock. What got them through it was timing, communication, and a level of technical coordination that only comes from two experienced artists trusting each other's instincts. She calls it one of the most rewarding artistic experiences she's had, and it shows: the piece took First Place in the Team Competition.
